Subject	ECU...is it needed?

Message	Yesterday, I went to the local shop in town (Motorsport Dynamics if you live in Sacramento) and I talked to one of the owners (Ed). I asked him what I should be doing first on my upgrade list and he said exhaust and intake. I'm aiming for B&B and a K&N intake. So I'm OK on this part but I also asked him about an ECU. He said that getting the JWT ECU would be the same as getting an A'PEX AFC and AVC. Is there any truth to this or do I need the ECU for later modifications? Any help will be appreciated.
